Went to the turtle hatchery this morning. I was the only visitor at the time so the owner explained all of the process to me. They buy the eggs from markets where they are sold to be eaten and then they plant them under the sand until it’s time to hatch. They eventually release them back into the wild. Although they keep a couple for educational purposes for 3 years and then they release those also and replace them with a new turtle. All in all seemed like a genuine place. I could be wrong. I understand there are places that exploit wildlife but I just had a feeling this was genuine. And yeah the tanks weren’t huge either but this isn’t the Sealife centre. There aren’t huge amounts of money going into it.
There was a tank of baby hatchlings just 3 days old. The cutest thing I’ve ever seen. There was also an albino turtle who was beautiful but apparently won’t live as long due to his genetic mutation. There were also a few tanks with injured turtles. Mainly with missing limbs from propellers or other accidents. They guy told me the teach them how to swim again and if they are successful then they are released. If not they stay.

I then got taken to a river boat tour. I hate boats. Well small ones that rock. They scare the living daylights out of me. It was kind of fun though. It was a big river and we saw it meeting the sea which was good.
I also saw my first purple faced leaf monkey. Unfortunately it was in a boat with a man trying to pimp it out to tourists. No thank you.
I have to admit the best part of the boat trip was the ‘fish therapy’ massage at the end. Although I needed a proper massage as I fell getting out of the boat and twisted both my shoulder and ankle. So, you know, I’m an idiot. It hurt. It still hurts. Anyway I sucked it up and stuck my feet in the pond thing. I hate being tickled and initially I just wanted to take my feet out but after a while I kind of got used to it.
Just got to the final hotel of the tour on my final full day here. So far so good. Not seen the room yet but it’s right on the beach and looks clean.
