The road to Kenya
It was an early start. I had to get one last gym session in before I set off. I arrived at Manchester Airport in good time only to find out my first flight of three was delayed by half an hour when I only had less than an hour connection time at Schipol Airport. Obviously this made me a little worried. Not because I wouldn’t make the flight but because my luggage wouldn’t. It would have meant a 25 minute connection which is not enough time. As my tour starts on Sunday morning I, of course, was worried I’d be wearing the same clothes for the first half of the tour! We finally get to the runway and there’s something bloody wrong requiring an inspection. It didn’t take long but it took those few precious minutes.
Low and behold I get to Amsterdam and the second flight is delayed. Phew. Or not. Because now the connection in London will be too short to get the luggage on the third flight.
I do some googling and thank god the third flight is delayed. I’ve never been pleased to be held up before. Not only that but I realised I gave the wrong flight details to the travel company for my transfer which was now likely to be late so I had to get on the blower to them.
But wait. The flight is no longer delayed and guess what? Missed it! Cue me crying in the middle of Heathrow airport before composing myself and getting to customer services and booked on another flight via Ethiopia.
And of course that isn’t the end of it. The flight is from a different terminal and the desk shuts in 25 minutes. I’ve never ran through an airport until today. I was ringing wet through and made it to the check in desk with 3 mins to spare. I’m currently sat on the plane just hoping that my luggage gets on the plane with me.
I’ve had to ring Kenya to advise them to pick me up at a different time too. Let’s see how that pans out.
That’s all for today. I will let you know when I land safely.
