What a load of Turda

So we left the lovely town of Sighisora with our sights set on our final destination of Cluj-Napoca but on the way we decided to visit Salina Turda or Turda Salt Mine. It is one of the main attractions in the area. I checked Trip Advisor first and the reviews were very much either love it or hate it. Mostly people were moaning about queuing for the lift back up.

We got there and the first descent was quite cool. Aesthetically anyway. It was a long staircase. I knew I’d have to walk back up it again later though!

Then came the view into the mine and I’d read it was a bit like a fun fair.

It wasn’t fun though. It was shit. Quite literally Turda. There was a little golf putting bit, pool tables, a ferris wheel that didn’t work and some boats on a brine lake where I swear I saw an actual Turda floating.

When I went to Krakow I remember being well impressed by the salt mine. It had a cathedral in it with statues carved into the salt. This was nothing like it. If you’re ever in the area do yourself a favour and skip it. One star. Crap. Made even worse by all the stairs back up! Talk about adding insult to injury.

Cluj wasn’t too far away and the parking was below the apartment were staying in making it the most straight forward of the trip so far. This hotel and city also feel very modern in comparison. It was getting a little late by the time we settled and had a quick walk around so we had a Pizza Hut and then decided to go back to the hotel with a pick and mix from. Candy Cats. I did find another funny menu clanger though. Make sure you don’t mix up how you say this one.
