Blackley

Have you ever been to Manchester? My guess is most of you reading this have been considering the majority of you know me. In that case you might know of a suburban area of north Manchester called Blackley. Then again you might not. There’s not much there apart from an amusingly named park called Boggart Hole Clough and a few criminals.

Anyway I was driving through there the other day and it sparked a rage in me that I’d forgotten all about and boy do I wish it had stayed buried because the anger almost hurts.

How would you pronounce the name of the place?

BLACK-LEIGH

Yeah? How it’s spelt

Wrong! Apparently. No. It’s said BLAKE-LEIGH. So basically either some dick head spelled it wrong in the first place or a whole town have been saying it wrong for what I can only imagine is centuries.
