So I had a day of rest yesterday. My stomach was really off and I didn’t want to eat or move. Unfortunately I’d also been traumatised the night before.
I had asked the staff to get rid of a cockroach in my room but he didn’t understand and saw a gecko. He sprayed the gecko with bug spray. I shouted ‘don’t kill the gecko’ at him but I was too late. He’d already sprayed him. Then I sat on the floor of the hotel watching the gecko (whom I named Gex after the video game) slowly become completely paralysed. I kept stroking him and trying to give him water but it was futile. Oh did I cry. To be honest I think I was missing Adam and after the whole gran situation I think it just tipped me over the edge. I made him a little bed out of a cosmestics basket and a flannel and I put him in a dark room to die. I let him outside in the morning to let nature take its course.

Anyway so I’d cried heavily, and had stomach upset so when we got to the new hotel yesterday I wasn’t up for the rainforest trail as was planned. The hotel (sorry motel) was awful. It wasn’t clean, the sheets were thin and barely big enough to cover the bed, there was no TV, no WiFi, nothing. There wasn’t even a phone to call reception. So, I pretty much slept all day.
Woke up this morning and realised the view from my room was pretty nice. I also had a tiny bit of breakfast. I’ve basically only had breakfast for the past 3 days and light ones at that. This becomes relevant later.

It started to pour with rain. We headed to Sinharaja rainforest but I knew it wasn’t going to be a good walk in the rain. The walk was basically all uphill and given I hadn’t eaten I started to feel quite faint and dizzy. I was also sweating profusely. We got to a little hut and the guide said have a rest. We had a conversation and he told me most of the animals would be hiding because of the rain. I felt rotten so I just asked if we could turn back. Which is a massive shame because I love rainforests. They are so full of life and they invigorate all of your senses. But today was not the day. We headed back down slowly. We did see a couple of things; a huge spider, a lizard (he said it was a kangaroo something or other), a couple of birds and some nice plants.
Got back to the car and set off when I discovered another bloody leech. We raced to the nearest hut to get some salt and got it off. I spent the rest of the journey checking my limbs.

Went to another tourist trap. But actually this time I had seen it somewhere and asked if we could go. Stupid mistake. It was the Moonstone Mines. I was just interested in the mining and what moonstones looked like. I ended up buying Gran a pendant of moonstone and a star sapphire ring for myself. Should have been £340 altogether but I told him I literally had £150 in the bank and I was going to leave it. I wasn’t lying. Anyway they must have been desperate…..

So got to the next hotel. Big improvement. However not quite the relaxing beach trip I imagined.
People seem to be making the most of it though.
