Ella, Ella ey ey ey
There was a fly sort of sugared on to my pastry this morning.

Took ages to get out of Kandy. However Nalaka is quite chatty today. So far he’s just answered my questions but not really had a proper conversation. Found out he’s diabetic and uses the herbal stuff from the spice gardens we went to. Apparently if he takes tourists he gets a discount on the medicine. Again, not many elderly folk about. He also talks a hell of a lot about prostitutes. I wonder where he gets his information from?
We went up into the mountains. It was beautiful scenery. We visited the tea factory. Yes, yet another tourist trap. I bought loads of things, but given I don’t drink tea it could be anything. The area of tea covered by just this one company was literally miles and miles long. Apparently the pockets have to pick 20kg of leaves PER DAY. Can you imagine how many leaves that is?!
Got to the train station. They were having some tourist festival. I didn’t see many tourists in there. It was mainly Sri Lankan kids in elaborate outfits dancing and making noise with instruments. The kids again just seemed to stare at me and whisper.
It’s strange. It’s more British here than Britain. Except it’s stuck around the turn of the century. And not the 21st. It’s literally like going back in time. Apart from the Boney M playing in the background. And now Dr Alban. They’re really down with the euro pop. I can’t cope with how surreal it is.
It’s a shame I’ve really noticed everyone is desperate to please the tourists and that’s because the tourism has dropped so much since the bombs.
Im glad when the train arrived the music was more traditional than turd. I had a rear facing aisle seat. Not exactly what I wanted. I literally would have paid for first class. Actually quite disappointed.
But after a couple of minutes I found my legs and a seat that was better. Also had a go of hanging out of the train. I must have pissed everyone off seat hopping.
Got to the Dream Cliff hotel which is a brand new hotel only opened last week by the tour company (Sri Lankan Dreams). I’m actually shocked at how lovely it is. And what a fantastic view. Best hotel I think I’ve ever been in anywhere. Definitely recommend!
Starving so I raided the mini bar. I’m going to pay for that in the morning. Literally.
Only person in the restaurant with my own personal waiter who may as well have been sat at the table with me. This was awkward because the tandoori chicken I ordered was on the bone and I genuinely can’t stand that. He brought the chef out to say hello too. Could hear lots of frogs and I saw some sort of firefly. I asked him about it but he said it was lightning. I don’t think he quite understood. Had a quick look for frogs. Found a huge one on a lily pad, got really excited, opened the camera on my phone and the guy then tells me it’s plastic. Tit.
