Day 6

Full of hot air

I was awoken by my alarm at 4.45 ready to be picked up at 5.15 for my balloon safari. We get to the launch site and have a safety briefing then it’s time to go.

You board the balloon with the basket on its side so you’re lying down on take off. Up, up and away! We were in the air and it was so so smooth. It was like floating over the Serengeti. We saw a cheetah first and then hippo, hyena, gazelle, zebra, elephant and finally lions! The thing I’ve been waiting for! However, we drifted by them quite quickly and so I’m looking forward to seeing more.

After this it was a champagne reception. They told us the story of the champagne tradition and apparently it’s because when balloon flights first happened it pissed off the locals and scared them so they offered the finest champagne as a truce. We then had a brilliant breakfast served by lovely waiters.

Back to camp for a sleep!

Off on the next game drive.

The next game drive was great. We saw baby elephants, giraffe and a fresh zebra kill from a lion. Unfortunately, she was hiding in the long grass and wouldn’t come near the kill whilst we were there. We then saw a bunch of sleeping lions under a tree and got quite close to them. Off we went back home for dinner and bed.
Ready for the next day
