No I’m not going to admit I have an anger problem. If anything it’s a balance problem.
If I’m doing a set and somebody walks across my view, particularly if it’s across a mirror, it throws me all off. It makes me feel all wobbly and to be honest quite unsafe. It’s also similar if someone walks at the side of me.
I don’t know why this happens and I’m not going to try to work it out now it but please, if I’m doing a set in the gym, don’t you dare cross me.
😉

🧳 UNPACKED
The Issue: People walking through my workout space mid-set made me feel wobbly and unsafe. Thought it was an anger problem, realized it’s a balance/focus problem.
Why It Actually Matters: When lifting heavy, your body uses visual cues for balance and proprioception. Someone crossing your sightline mid-rep genuinely disrupts stability. In mirrors? Even worse – that’s your form-check feedback getting interrupted.
What Helped:
- Good headphones – created audio tunnel to block out gym chaos
- Strategic positioning – corners/walls = fewer disruption angles
- The thousand-yard stare – lock gaze on one point, ignore peripherals
- Giving myself permission to be annoyed about it
The Real Talk: It’s not just about balance – it’s about vulnerability. Gym = doing hard things while exposed in mirrors surrounded by strangers. Someone invading that space mid-struggle isn’t just breaking concentration, it’s invading a vulnerable moment. That angry gym face was protection, not rage.
Gym Focus Essentials:
- 📦 Pack here: Noise-cancelling headphones for workout focus
Worth Knowing: Feeling wobbly when disrupted is totally normal – your proprioceptive system relies on consistent visual input. Gym etiquette is apparently optional for some people. Spoiler: it shouldn’t be.
