Take me to the river

Drop me in the water

Now you’re all thinking about that god awful Big Mouth Billy Bass I’ll tell you about my little run this morning.

I’d gotten a tip off (sounds dodgy) about a river running through south Manchester, from a friend. I didn’t know it was there but I imagine most people do. So I thought a run down there whilst the weather was nice would be a good idea.

Whilst I was in a good mood, my idea was to run an extra kilometre on top of my usual 5. So, I’d run 3.5k in one direction and then run back 2.5k giving me a k to cool off and admire the scenery.

It was a nice run, plenty to look at, relatively flat. However, the terrain was a bit tricky at times and I think I have sprained my foot a little. I’m sure I saw a dragonfly the size of an eagle too! I also got the wireless headphones I’d been pining for so I wasn’t all wrapped up in wires which was much more comfortable. I recommend. The ones I got were Bluedio. They are good for the price. A little big for my head, not too breathable when I sweat but they work well and the sound quality is great. The FM tuner is a fantastic bonus too.

Anyway after my 5k I was relatively ok so I decided just to run all the way back, if I could. That last 2k was hard but my god I did it! 7k! I was so proud of myself. Ok it took me an hour but don’t judge me.

I think I might hit that 10k by summer goal after all.

🧳 UNPACKED

The Achievement: 5K to 7K in one run. Took an hour, but did it. Progress towards that 10K summer goal.

The Discovery: River route through south Manchester – flat, scenic, but tricky terrain. Sprained foot slightly (worth it).

Gear That Worked: Bluedio wireless headphones – finally no wires! Good for price, bit big, not super breathable when sweaty, but sound quality great. FM tuner bonus.

Kit for River/Trail Running:

Worth Knowing: Uneven terrain requires proper trail shoes. And dragonflies the size of eagles are apparently real in Manchester.
