Comical Con

So, I got to meet Zach Galligan yesterday at Comic Con. He played Billy in the Gremlins films. If you know me you’ll know my obsession. If you don’t, you will after reading this. I was so nervous and excited all in one. I’m usually really chilled and I don’t really fangirl over anything so I didn’t know what to do with myself. My friend had to keep telling me to breathe. I’ve loved, lived, breathed, tattooed Gremlins since I was tiny. Anyway I was only to see him. I didn’t care for anything else at the conference. I pre bought an autograph, photograph and ‘selfie’ in the Gremlins kitchen but having never been to anything like this before I genuinely had no idea what to expect.

My friend was running a bit late and so when we got there his Q&A session was just coming to a close. I wanted to try to get in there anyway but the signage in the place was awful and it was massive so just as we found the right room Zach walked out and unexpectedly he was just there right in my face. ‘HI’ I shrieked and he looked a bit confused and said hey back like he thought he should have known me from the way I greeted him because I felt like I did know him. I’ve seen those films hundreds of times. Sure he’s older now but he looks the same!

Anyway, we went to get a drink quickly because I was so dehydrated and then we headed to where his table was. The Gremlins kitchen was just behind and he wasn’t there yet so we took a couple of snaps and then had a quick walk around to orientate ourselves. Once it was time for his signing we queued back up at his table. It took quite a while to get to him because the bloody fast track people kept skipping in. I was getting more and more worked up.

It was finally my turn. I asked assistant woman if I could have my gizmo signed instead of a picture and she said that was fine. I then turned to him and said ‘Yeah, I’m not really a fan.’ Why? Why did I say that? I mean he laughed because I was literally dressed head to toe in Gremlins. I had a Gremlins dress on, cardigan, trainers socks, Gizmo earrings, Bat gremlin necklace, Flasher brooch, propeller hat gremlin brooch and a Gremlins bag. He had a stuffed Gizmo with him. One of the ones that sings and dances. I told him I had the same one with me. I said I’d had it since I was 16 and he said oh so like 3 years then? Oh Zach you old flirt! Blushes. I then went to have the selfie in the kitchen which was with him but as I’d paid to have the pro photo later I asked him if it could be a silly scary photo instead of a boring arms around me photo. He agreed and while I was getting in position I elbowed the Peltzer Egg Cracker Prop behind me, broke it and sent the fake eggs rolling down the floor and his assistant chasing them. I was so embarrassed and profusely apologising. Then I was like ‘so I’ll see you in 10 mins for the other picture 🫣.’

Just trying to catch a flying egg

And literally that’s what happened. I turned up again and was like ‘hey it’s me again. I’m so sorry, I won’t break anything this time.’ At first he was like what? And then realised who I was and chuckled a bit. Which was kinda cute because the picture was like a real laugh and not faked. So I got a really sweet, lovely photo.

The rest of the day was spent drying off and cooling down. I virtually crashed out when I got home. The adrenaline was just soaring through me all day!

They say you should never meet your heroes. Usually it’s because they’ll disappoint you. In this case it was because I made a tit of myself.

I fully expect a restraining order through the post next week or maybe an invite to the Gremlins 3 screening next year. It’s one or the other. For now it’s Bye Billy.
