A Prague hen do: a very lively city break in the Czech Republic
Prague was never going to be a quiet sightseeing weekend. Twenty of us headed to the Czech capital for a hen do, which meant a very different kind of Prague city break involving bars, activities, a lot of people and some fairly memorable moments.
So this is a bit of a delayed post. For a couple reasons. Firstly because I haven’t blogged for a couple of years and secondly because I got back from Prague a month ago. I think I’d more or less given up but I’d read a couple of my own posts and laughed so much at my own jokes that I thought hey why not cement these memories while I actually have them.
So here I am again telling you tales of my travels. This time to Prague. The capital city of the Czech Republic. The reason? A mega hen do.
My friend Emma is going to marry her other half Joe in summer (in Rhodes so you may get some further editions) and so of course a hen was planned. The planning was done by her bridesmaids and they did a grand job. There was 20 of us. 20. TWENTY. I could not organise this amount of oestrogen ever. But they did a brilliant job. Most of the group were our close knit group of girls that we have had since school plus a couple of mums, colleagues and relatives. There were only, I think, three, people I hadn’t met previously. I met them at the airport and someone joked they might not have been able to find me as I rocked up in my usual rainbow attire. I love that we were given a hen party pack including a sash which was obviously not, shall we say, DD+ friendly. It was more a belt than a sash and when Leanne showed Allan on FaceTime he commented I could use two and become the next Jodie Marsh.

The flight was wonderful. Typically British. Everyone (except me) was pissed and singing. I’m sure the pilot was pleased. The guy next to me was not. Not only was he 7 foot tall, sat next to someone 7 foot wide, he wasn’t English and he was sat in a group of hens with a group of stags behind them. He sat sternly with his fingers in his ears through the beautiful rendition of Wonderwall.
We arrived and the first night was lovely. We found a bar that had sort of projections on the walls and was quite unique but it was not an eventful night as we were all tired and had been a long day. The male dancer did get Emma up to dance with him though!
So day two arrives. I’ve had a decent sleep because I went home reasonably early and didn’t drink much. We had originally been booked on to a Prosecco bike tour of Prague in the afternoon which I assume is like one of those peddle table things. However, there were some protests of some sort going on and so the activity had to be cancelled and so we had been offered a spa day instead. We were told to be at reception for midday to be picked up. We all got ready, costumes on under clothes, headed down and met the woman expecting to see a bus or something. No. She was walking us to the place. It was a little bit of a walk. I’d say 10-15 mins but getting more and more alley like until we get to this doorway with a sign above called something like City Sauna. Ok. It’s a genuine Czech experience. Let’s go in. I’m near the back of the queue and I can see muttering and screwed up faces ahead. Then Becky turns to us ‘Right ladies, get your sheet and towel, take your shoes off here go up the stairs to the changing rooms. It’s no bathing suits allowed
Yep it’s a damn naked sauna
Now if you’re reading this and you know me, you’ll know I’m not really that bothered and I was straight up those stairs! No swimsuits but you’ve got the sheet covering you. Someone did ask if they did king size sheets. I said I’d need one sheet per teet. It was fine though. All was covered. So when we get up there it’s mostly just different saunas and steam rooms and areas to sit in. Then there’s a bar area upstairs to get some spa snacks. There’s only so much heat one can take. So most of us had gone upstairs. At this point I realised we were all just essentially sat drinking Prosecco naked in a bar.
After one little glass I thought I should make use of the facilities. Tried the saunas again but they were so so hot. Then I spotted a bucket in one of the showers with a rope. I knew it was going to be one of those freezing cold water bucket things that’s supposed to be good for you after a sauna so I thought hey why not? There were still a few other people hanging about so silly me asked Lucy to hold my sheet over the doorway to hide my modesty a little while I did the ice bucket challenge. What happened? It was cold! Of course! But my sheet got wet through too and what happens to white sheets when they are wet? Well… let’s just say the staff have seen more of my tattoos than my own mother. I asked for another, they said there would be a charge. Meh. Enjoy the art.
Soon after a few people wanted to experience the plunge pool so we all decided to get in the freezing cold pool. It was only cold for a few seconds and then it sort of became, well, fine. Ish. Then we got out. But we did it.

We had been given the brief a good few months beforehand that we were doing a fancy dress boat party on the Saturday night. Urgh fancy dress? Me? I hate it…

I know I know I lied!
I LOVE FANCY DRESS
So we had been given the brief that the fancy dress had to begin with the letter M because Emma is going to be Mrs Morris. After a few back and forth ideas I had decided on my outfit and it was going to be the best. I literally spent months gathering ideas, things, making things and it had all come down to this day. Putting the outfit in the suitcase was enough of a nightmare.
It went almost perfectly. I put the temporary tattoo on and it was a little too big to fit with the bald cap that I had bought but luckily I had some felt eyeliner with me and was able to draw on the cap to make it seamless. The gold tooth wouldn’t stick properly but I managed to squash it on to my tooth in the end. Once I had gotten all of my accessories together it was time to go.
We headed down to the meeting point. Emma had no idea about the fancy dress and she came in and was dressed as The Mother Teresa

We all looked MMMMMAgnificent in our M costumes!

We went to a club first which was very packed and underground but drinks were included so it was like a fight to get to the bar. I wasn’t looking for any trouble but I had a good dance. Then we were led to the main event. The boat party. But we had to walk to it. So we had to walk through the streets of Prague to the boat. It took ages and I swear some people were lost on the way. Actually a couple of our own friends had decided to leave at this point. We got to the boat and we were let on and then the party started! And it was fun!
Some guy asked me to punch him. Of course I said no I was not going to punch him. Then he asked again. And again and again and again and again and again….

Also what is it with guys touching stuff on your head? Yeah I’ve got a bald cap on. Don’t touch it. I had to ‘No, no no’ with my finger, to so many lads because they were touching my bald cap. It was cellotaped to my hair for crying out loud. You don’t want to pull my hair out!
Once the boat party was done we were ushered to another club which was just a bit of a nightmare. I could see the organiser was getting stressed and pissy with the owners tbh because the queue to get into the club was enormous and it was obviously pre-arranged. Some of the M gang had already left and the others were ahead of the queue and I just thought it was time to ‘throw in the towel.’ While I was making my mind up a couple were looking at me (probably thinking I’m crazy) and they started asking me for selfies and then if we can use the boxing gloves in the photos. None of this in English. Alright love, it’s not Hollywood. So I left. A sad sack, heavyweight, Mike Tyson walking through the streets of Prague alone. With no other fancy dress friends. So I ordered an Uber and then stood on the corner waiting for it like some sort of really niche working girl. And when it arrived it felt like a knock out!

At this point do you really need to know any more?
I look forward to the wedding

🧳 UNPACKED
Would I go back? Yes — preferably with slightly fewer than twenty people next time.
Best for? A group trip or hen do if you want plenty going on and somewhere built for a lively weekend.
What didn’t I expect? How different a city feels when you experience it as part of a massive group rather than as a normal sightseeing break.
Top tip? For a big group, organise the important activities in advance and accept that getting twenty people anywhere at the same time is an activity in itself.
