Day 13

Uhuru Peaky

I had to be awake at 10pm last night to start the trek to the top at 11. One hour before the others! That’s how slow I was. My guide for the evening was Jacob. He carried my pack and pushed me along the way. He started off really nice but then got quite pushy near the top. For my own good apparently.

The sky was spectacular. The Milky Way was evident and I saw a few shooting stars. I tried to take a picture but I couldn’t get it in focus in the dark and it was starting to get very cold.

Speaking of the cold, I had 4 layers up top, 4 on the bottom and 2 pairs of socks and gloves. It was cold! Not as cold as I was expecting but still cold.

The sunrise was beautiful. I should really have taken a picture but I was so tired by this point I just couldn’t be bothered.

Anyway the slog went on for around 10 hours but….

I MADE IT

The views were spectacular and it was definitely worth it but boy was I tired by this point.
Then I had to walk down to Horombo huts so two days walk in one after doing the peak. It was hard. Altitude sickness started to kick in early in the descent. I was exhausted as well. The result was me falling over at least 5 times and vomiting the same amount.

I gave Vendelin my camera to hold and found a few sneaky pics on there later…..

Even got a cheeky finger in there

Finally arrived at Horombo huts just after 6. Can you imagine walking for 19 hours straight with very little break? I couldn’t eat. But I did sleep!
On to the next day!
